FAQs

FAQ's for Counselling and Therapy

  • What is Counselling?

Counselling is a respectful, confidential and supportive talking therapy where together, in a calm and peaceful environment, I can help you to process your feelings, reduce your emotional stress and anxiety and enhance and promote your wellbeing. Together, we will explore your world. I will listen and strive to understand from your perspective, without judgement.

Counselling is about listening, feeling heard and understood .  My ultimate aim is to help you feel better and  gain a clearer  view on your situation.

  • How many counselling sessions will I need?

This depends on how you feel counselling works for you and the issues you are dealing with.  I would normally suggest you commit to an initial 6 sessions of work, usually (although not always) occurring once weekly.  This offers a time - limited introduction to counselling & therapy.  We will then review the process together and talk about what you feel you have achieved and what you feel you would like to explore further.  The choice to continue or leave counselling is always yours.

  • Is Counselling Confidential?

As your counsellor, I will respect you as a person and endeavor to honour your trust and confidences. What is shared between you and I remains confidential.

Very occasionally, it is acceptable to break confidentiality.  Exceptions to confidentiality include allegations of child abuse and safeguarding, when a serious crime has been committed or threatened or if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others.

If I consider that you are at imminent risk of causing harm to yourself or others, I may seek additional assistance on your behalf or on the behalf of others.  In all but exceptional circumstances this will be done with your consent.

As part of my professional development and to provide you with a safe and ethical service, I consult with my supervisor monthly.  An experienced and qualified BACP supervisor, they are bound by the same guidelines on confidentiality and do not have access to any information that identifies you.

I recommend you advise me of anyone from whom you wish to receive additional support and with whom you would like me to communicate with on a confidential basis between sessions.  I am happy to liaise with professionals should this be required, however I would ask you to complete a Permission to Disclose Information form.

  • What is Supervision?

In line with BACP guidance, I am required to see a supervisor on a regular basis.  An experience and qualified BACP supervisor, they are bound by the same guidelines regarding confidentiality and do not have access to to any information that identifies you.  Supervision ensures safe and ethical practice and enhances your counselling experience by ensuring your needs and best interests remain at the heart of the process.

  • How do I pay for my counselling session?

Counselling sessions can be paid for by BACS, Cash or Cheque.  The fee is payable at the end of each session.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Your counselling session is time reserved completely for you.  Once booked, that time belongs totally to you.  I will never allocate your appointment to anyone else.  Therefore, all missed appointments must be paid for in full

Should you need to cancel  your  appointment, please call or text me on: 07842332802

I appreciate that cancellations can be unavoidable, however,  if you provide less than 24 hrs notice, then unfortunately the full fee will be incurred.

Very occassionally I might need to cancel our appointment.  I will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible should this situation arise and do all I can to rearrange an alternative appointment  for you.

  • Where are you located?

My therapy rooms in Worcestershire are easily located in the centre of Bromsgrove and Hagley. Peaceful and welcoming, you can be assured of complete privacy and a safe, comfortable  environment in which you can explore your current difficulties and the issues that matter most to you.

Fully insured, I am also qualified and experienced in providing telephone and online counselling.  I look forward to discussing which option feels right for you.
